Seongdong Park is the founder of Satrec Initiative. He entered KAIST in 1986 as part of its first undergraduate class and later studied satellites at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom. In 1992, he successfully developed Korea’s first satellite, Woori Byeol-1, and upon returning to Korea, led the launches of Woori Byeol-2 and Woori Byeol-3 at KAIST Satellite Technology Research Center.

With the bold yet simple goal of “selling satellites made with our own hands to the world,” he co-founded Satrec Initiative with colleagues at the end of 1999, and the company was listed on KOSDAQ in 2008. He served as CEO until 2012 and as Chairman of the Board until 2021, retiring in 2022. He received the Order of Industrial Service Merit (Bronze Tower, 1992), a Presidential Citation (2006), and the Order of Industrial Service Merit (Stone Tower, 2009). He has also served as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology and as Chair of the Public Space Committee under the National Science and Technology Council.

He is currently serving as an Independent Director at Perigee Aerospace Inc.
